Marched with friends today in support of science. If you are confused as to why scientists and people in science based fields marched today this sums it up perfectly:
"“We are at a critical juncture. Science is under attack,” said Cara Santa Maria, a science communicator who is one of several emcees of the four-hour rally that kicked off at 10 a.m. “The very idea of evidence and logic and reason is being threatened by individuals and interests with the power to do real harm.” link: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/big-turnout-expected-for-march-for-science-in-dc/2017/04/21/67cf7f90-237f-11e7-bb9d-8cd6118e1409_story.html Science creates jobs, halts disease, refines technology and technique. It is the very pulse of progress. I am doing what I can to curb disastrous decision making. I've voted, signed petitions, emailed/called reps, I figure showing up to marches adds to numbers and numbers seem to count. Peaceful protest is one of the most American things you can do. Some may think a demonstration is silly but standing in a crowd of thousands of people who share a view or many views in common is a powerful experience. I look around and am like "look you aren't alone. All these people are just as concerned as you". Its comforting.
