A former classmate of mine Christina Vanlandingham is now on the Brazos Arts Council. She asked a variety of artists translate child's drawing into fine art. It was important to me for the child to be able to interact with it, so I turned this drawing into a soft sculpture pillow. Here are some process photos. The finished piece has a zipper pocket hidden under the monster's face, and it glows in the dark.

Remember my friend Josh? The guy with the hack saw? He's also an artist, and a fabulous one at that. His work is so simple and moving that it's mind blowing. I've had an "art crush" on him for a few years now. Might have even had an a Yates Alter at one point....but that's another story. Recently he's been leaving clues that guide people to secluded areas where he has hidden installations. This one involves a recording hidden in a locker. Loud enough that a passerby might stop and wonder about it, but quiet enough the viewer needs to press their ear against it to decipher it's meaning. In this case it's a monologue about what I assume was a young Josh's home life. At one point he's asks "Can you hear me? Can anybody hear this? I just need to know you can hear this." Pretty excited this week! Been getting a new piece ready for the Huntsville art walk. Here are in process pics. The lovely Josh Yates assisted me.  Gabriel Barcia-Colombo is an American video artist who creates who collects and stores his friend in ordinary objects such as suitcases, blenders and more. If you have a chance watch his ted talk, do it. You won't be disappointed!

The idea started after seeing Portlandia's "we can pickle that". And a few pins I'd recently seen. Ridiculousness, I know, but it really got me thinking about ways to capture moments. Below is a photo of a piece I made for a good friend of mine. Schuinn enjoyed college life more than anyone I know, so for his graduation present I documented his experiences with sampling. Contained in a much larger jar there are series of smaller jars. Each jar represents one of his regular hang outs. For example for his old apartment, 911, I dug up soil from the front yard. From our friend Mel, I was given several of the cigarettes left over from one night's banter. Fibers from my couch lie in one jar, much like he did a couple of nights after heavy partying. Also there are objects representing inside jokes. Schuinn recently told me it was one of the most meaningful gifts he's ever been given, which makes me count it as a major success. I feel like this was a sketch for future projects. The one that keeps nagging at me is a self portrait jar. So wish me luck! -Meredith  Saw these at Ross for $5. It's a little rediculous how excited I am to use them. I'm one of those people who manages to unthread a needle almost every other stich. I might be exaggerating, but it totally feels that way! I really think these needles might speed up the sewing time on my cicada outfits :D
